What does it take to have a life closer to Jesus? Luke 9:23 says, “If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me.”
Notice the emphasis on self-denial. Indeed, self-gratification absorbs the interest of many who profess to be followers of Christ and becomes a hindrance to genuine communion with Jesus. When satisfying human desires becomes our goal, Jesus is sidelined and left behind in our endless pursuit of temporal bliss. Surely, we must deny ourselves if we want to come closer to Him.
Daily bearing the cross is another key point. When God shows us the path to take, we must be willing to walk in it. Many pray that God will reveal His will, but few are ready to act. It is important to ask for His direction, but it is in doing the biddings of God that we truly start walking closer to Him.
Ultimately, following Christ, letting Him lead, and surrendering to Him is the way to a life closer to Jesus.
