Why are you doing what you are doing? I want more money… I want a bigger house… I want to be renowned… These are common responses. Self-interest consumes many, but a righteous man seeks to benefit others. Most importantly, his greater purpose is to save souls. The Bible says, “the fruit of the righteous is a tree of life; and he that winneth souls is wise” (Proverbs 11:30).

When we share the good news in this sin-stricken world, we become a channel of life. “Let him know, that he which converteth the sinner from the error of his way shall save a soul from death, and shall hide a multitude of sins.” (James 5:20) A sinner is bound for destruction, but truth brings freedom from error, and the power of Christ enables the soul to grasp eternal life.

A soul-winner is wise because his eyes are fixed on the eternal. His investments are in heaven, and temporal matters do not sway him. The world may gaze at him with ridicule, but when the great hope pierces the heavens, everything becomes truly worthwhile.
