Choosing God First | Sharp Sickles 4Q 2022

In Matthew 6:33, Jesus instructs his disciples to seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all other things will be added unto them. This verse is a reminder that our priority in life should be to seek after God’s will, and trust that He will provide for our needs.

Sometimes it can be easy to get caught up in pursuing material things, such as money, possessions, or status. However, Jesus reminds us that these things are temporary and will not bring true fulfillment. Instead, we should prioritize our relationship with God and seek His will above all else.

Our best example of choosing God first is Jesus. He said, “I can of mine own self do nothing: as I hear, I judge: and my judgment is just; because I seek not mine own will, but the will of the Father which hath sent me.” (John 5:30) Jesus emphasizes that he is completely dependent on the will of the Father and that his purpose is to carry out the Father’s will. By seeking the will of the Father, Jesus is able to make just judgments and fulfill His ultimate purpose.

Like Jesus, we must seek the will of the Father in all that we do. We should not rely on our own strength or wisdom, but rather on the guidance and direction of God. |
